The Use of Medication
he most commonly used medicine for naughty boys in Western culture is via the route of a diagnosis of ADHD, leading to a prescription of a psycho-stimulant such as Ritalin or Dexedrine.

The Genetically Programmed Child and ADHD, is the Scientific Evidence Good Enough?
Domination of the world's markets allows American culture to be successfully exported. Along with Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Hollywood, pseudo-medical constructs such as ADHD are becoming a part of everyday culture in other Western countries and slowly creeping into the collective consciousness of many non-industrialized countries too. An enthusiastic drug industry and drug-industry-funded pro-medication parent groups, using the tools given to them by prominent bio-psychiatrists helped establish ADHD as the main diagnostic label to use. This is evident by clinics that have been set up in this country (United States), both private and National Health Service (NHS), being called ADHD clinics as opposed to 'Hyperkinetic disorder' clinics. Titles used in publications, media reports, and academic conferences now refer to ADHD, with it the less money-spinning term 'Hyperkinetic Syndrome' seems disappearing into the pages of history.

A Brief History of ADHD
Over-activity, poor concentration and impulsively in children were first conceptualized as medical phenomena earlier this century. The first recorded interest in children with poor attention and hyperactivity dates back to the turn of the century when a pediatrician, Frederick Still, described a group of children who showed an abnormal incapacity for sustained attention, restlessness and fidgetiness, and went on to argue that these children had deficiencies in volitional inhibition, but offered no treatment other than good discipline.

A New Category of Childhood-the ADHD Child
Schools are struggling with being under-resourced, using labor-intensive 'modern' educational methods in highly stimulating colorful classes, under pressure to demonstrate ever-improving academic achievement in their pupils, with ever less methods for behavioral control of children at their disposal. John, one of their distractible and boisterous children gets a diagnosis of ADHD and starts taking Ritalin. He is no longer a big problem

Motive of ADHD Drug Companies
Something strange has been happening to children in western society in the past couple of decades. The diagnosis of ADHD has reached epidemic proportions, particularly amongst boys in North America. National surveys conducted in 2003 and 2007 found that about 1.6 million cases of ADHD had been diagnosed in American elementary school children (about seven percent of 6-11 years old, and given that three to four times more boys diagnosis were around 11 percent of 6-11 years old boys).

Tips for Helping Your ADHD Child with Homework
Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) often have difficulty sitting still and concentrating. They feel the urge to move around continually. Everyday items such as a ticking clock, the movement of the rustling leaves, the wind outside, and the dripping of a leaky faucet are enough to distract attention from homework.
